“A Celebration of Diversity through Greater Understanding of Faith-Cultures,” Inter-Religious Council Presentation by guest lecturer Bruce Feiler will promote greater understanding among the major faith cultures.  Amount awarded: $5,000
“Staff Diversity Day: A Multicultural Showcase,” Staff Organization Multicultural event will highlight the diversity of the university staff community.  Amount awarded: $3,178
“Diversity Communication Lecture Series,” Shawn Long, Communications Studies Nationally recognized experts in the area of minority graduate student education will discuss how to effectively recruit, retain, and mentor minority graduate students.  Amount awarded:   $5,900
“Strategies for Effective Communication and Teamwork in a Diverse Academic Environment,”     Meriam Brown, International Programs A team of faculty and graduate students will develop a website that provides strategies and   information for effective communication and teamwork in a diverse environment.  Amount awarded: $5,750
“Diversity in Contemporary Thought,” Eddy Souffrant and William Gay, Philosophy and Center for Applied Ethics Guest speaker Anita Allen will be part of a lecture series to explore the construction of a diverse and multi-cultural civil society.  Amount awarded: $4,175
“The REEL Library for Multicultural Literature,” Brian Kissel and Sherell Fuller, Reading and Elementary Education

Faculty will create a lending library of multicultural children’s literature for faculty, staff and in-service/pre-service teachers.  Amount awarded: $5,000

“College of Education Poverty Simulation Project,” Lyndon Abrams, Counseling, and Lan Quach, Middle, Sec­ondary and K-12 Education Counselor education doctoral students will be trained in the development and delivery of poverty simulation exercises for faculty, staff and students and the larger Charlotte community.  Amount awarded: $1,500
“Drum, Sing and Stomp Like an Arab: Music and Dance from the Arab World,” Rick Dior and Anne Harley, Music Workshop and performance will feature a visiting artist specializing in traditional Arabic music and dance traditions of Persia.  Amount awarded: $1,976
“Russian Gypsy Music and Dance,” Will Crockett and Vadim Kolpakov, Music Guest artists will present a series of lectures and performances to draw attention to the Gypsy Holocaust and Russian-Roma culture and traditions.  Amount awarded: $5,000
“A Campus of Difference,” Office of Student Activities A diversity training program facilitated by the Anti-Defamation League will be offered for student organization leaders.  Amount awarded: $4,142
“Kate Bornstein: On Men, Women and the Rest of Us,” Coral Wayland, Women’s Studies, and Terri Rhodes, Counseling Center Guest speaker will conduct workshops and present a public lecture about gender and sexuality.  Amount awarded: $5,000
“A Tale of Two Queen Cities,” Jose Gamez, Architecture, and Heather Freeman, Art Through creative visual practices, this research project will allow students to explore the impacts of Latino immigration on the cultural landscapes of Charlotte, NC and Los Angeles, CA.   Amount awarded: $4,720
“White Privilege and Institutional Discrimination,” Counseling Center Educator and public speaker Allan Johnson discusses the influence of White privilege and status in the educational environment, and ways to dismantle institutional racism and improve diversity on college campuses.  Amount awarded: $5,000
“Tres Vidas,” Will Crockett, Music Performance by the Core Ensemble celebrates the life, times and work of three significant Latin and South American women.  Amount awarded: $5,000
“Each of Us: A Culture Unto Ourselves,” Terre Lucas, BEST Program Challenge Day program is used to promote and sustain activities related to diversity and tolerance.  Amount awarded: $5,000
“Opera for All,” Anne Harley, Music The department will pilot an outreach program to bring opera performances to CMS high schools and offer a free matinee performance for an economically disadvantaged and  culturally underserved demographic.  Amount awarded: $5,000
“U-TOP,” Greg Davis, Academic Services The U-TOP program facilitates the underrepresented student's transition from high school to college.  Amount awarded: $5,000

“Diversity in the Workplace,” Shirley Greene Jackson, Human Resources Consultant presents “Diversity in the Workplace” session at leadership conference for supervisors and managers.  Amount awarded: $1,200
“A Family Affair Multicultural Student Reception,” Regena Brown, Admissions  Reception to introduce newly admitted minority students and their families to the UNCC campus community.  Amount awarded: $5,000
“Hispanic Cultural Competence Classroom-Based Workshop,” Lisa Wagnes and Donna Kazemi, Nursing Cultural diversity workshop series will increase the knowledge of nursing students and faculty about Hispanic culture and language.  Amount awarded: $5,000
“Gifts From My Ancestors,” Robert Smith, Africana Studies Concert and lecture by Calvin Earl emphasizes the significance of African American Spirituals.  Amount awarded: $1,125
"Community and Communities Across the African Diaspora,” Robert Smith, Africana Studies 5th Annual UNCC Symposium on the African Diaspora is a two-day seminar to expose the campus community to pertinent issues impacting the African Diaspora.  Amount awarded:            $1,625
“Architecture as Activism—Diversity Through Design,” Linda Samuels, Architecture Art and architecture students and faculty collaborate with the staff and neighbors of Urban Ministry’s Community Works 945 art, soccer, and community garden program for the homeless of Charlotte.  Amount awarded: $4,950
 “The African/American Connection”  Film, discussion, and guest lecturers educate students and faculty about Africa and the connection between Africa and America.  Amount awarded: $4,200
