DANC 1101. American Dance: A Cultural Reflection. (A) (3) Examination of how the dance of other cultures is reflected in American Dance; what impact the socio-political climate has on the development of dance forms; how popular culture has influenced dance expression through lectures, film, video, and live dance performances. DANC 1103. Introduction to Dance. (1) Prerequisite: for non-majors only. Studio experience with movement characteristics of ballet, modern dance and jazz dance for the beginner. Two contact hours. (On demand)

DANC 2119. Ideokinesiology. (3) Prerequisite: DANC 1214. Concentration on visual and tactile aids as well as imagery for teaching dance and body re-education. Two lecture hours, two lab hours. (Spring)

DANC 2120. Dance Education Methods I. (3) Prerequisites: DANC 1215 or consent of instructor. Corequisite: DANC 2120L. Creative movement theories; techniques and skills for teaching the elementary school child. (Fall)

DANC 2228. Creative Dance Experience. (2) Prerequisite: DANC 1214 and 1218 or consent of instructor. Exploration of basic dance elements: space, time, energy, and design. Four contact hours. (Spring)

DANC 2601. Sophomore Individual Project. (2) Project designed by the student with the assistance of the adviser. Majors only. Three contact hours. (Fall, Spring)

DANC 3001. Topics in Dance. (1-3) Special topic in dance. May be repeated for credit with change in topic. Two to six contact hours. (On demand)

DANC 3110. Dance Criticism. (W) (3) Twentieth century dance forms are used as a basis for discussion and written commentary. (Spring) (Alternate years)

DANC 3226. The Origins of Jazz Dance. (1) Traces (primarily through movement) the evolution of jazz dance from the late 1800's through the 1940's. (Fall) (Alternate years)

DANC 3230. Choreography. (3) Prerequisites: DANC 2110, 2111, 2228. Methods and sources of dance composition. Six contact hours. (Fall)

DANC 3234. Modern Dance V. (3) Prerequisite: DANC 2225 or consent of instructor. Dance technique at an advanced level. May be repeated for credit. Six contact hours. (Fall)

DANC 3235. Modern Dance VI. (3) Prerequisite: DANC 3234 or consent of instructor. Continuation of DANC 3234. May be repeated for credit. Six contact hours. (Spring)

DANC 3400. Internship in Dance. (3-6) Prerequisites: GPA of at least 2.5, junior status, and permission of department chair. Research and/or in-service training for dance majors and minors in cooperating organizations. Specific content based upon a contract between the student, department, and professional organization. (Fall, Spring, Summer)

DANC 3479. Student Teaching in Dance. (12) Prerequisite: senior standing in the teacher certification track of the BCA dance degree program. A 15-week practicum in the teaching of dance at the elementary and/or secondary levels. Includes a weekly seminar. Three contact hours weekly, plus the semester-long practice teaching experience. (Fall, Spring)
