TEACHER LICENSURE

PostBaccalaureate. Students who have already completed a baccalaureate degree may be admitted to the University and the College for teacher licensure purposes. Specific courses and activities necessary for licensure will be determined upon an evaluation of the student's credentials by the Office of Academic Programs and Student Services, in the College. This evaluation will take into account the student's prior preparation in accordance with the guidelines of the University's approved program in teacher education. A plan of study leading to licensure will be developed with the student and a copy of the approved plan filed with the State Department of Public Instruction.

Graduate. North Carolina provides graduate licensure for satisfactory completion of approved master's programs. The graduate licensure may be of the same type or field received at the completion of a baccalaureate degree program or it may be in a special service personnel area such as Administration, Supervision, Counseling and Guidance, Reading, or Special Education. Students electing graduate licensure in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, and special service personnel areas major in Education and pursue a Master of Education degree program. Students who select Secondary licensure areas generally will major in Education but may elect to major in a graduate program within the College of Arts and Sciences in disciplines specific to the licensure sought.

Additional Requirements for Acceptance into the Master of Education Degree Program. In addition to the general requirements for admission to The Graduate School, the following are required for graduate study in Education:
