ACADEMIC REGULATIONS AND DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

PROGRESSION REQUIREMENT

Undergraduate students entering UNC Charlotte in Fall 1993 or after are required to progress toward completion of a bachelor's degree program without exceeding the allowed differences in progression hours and hours earned indicated as follows:
Progression Hours Difference in Hours Earned
           30-44 12
           45-59 15
           60-74 18
           75-89 21
           90-104 24
      105-119 27
      120-180 30
A student who exceeds the allowed difference in progression hours and hours earned will be placed on probation. A student who has failed to achieve good standing by the end of two successive semesters on probation (excluding summer sessions) will be suspended. The maximum number of hours that a student may attempt to earn a bachelor's degree is 180 hours, or 30 hours beyond the hours required for the degree, whichever is larger. See Course Exclusion Policy under Grading Policies.

Hours earned are defined as all hours for which a student is awarded credit.

Progression Hours are defined as all hours for which a student registers for credit plus hours equivalent to transfer hours earned and hours earned through credit by examination. They include:

    a. all courses for which credit is earned; b. all repeated courses; c. all courses for which a grade of W is assigned; and d. courses taken under the Pass/No Credit Option if there are hours earned.
Progression hours do not include hours for which no grade or a grade of I (incomplete) is assigned or for an unsuccessful attempt to receive credit by examination. A transfer student receives the same number of progression hours as the hours accepted for transfer. A student readmitted under either the A.A. Degree Rule or the Two-Year Rule (see Readmission of Former Students in this Catalog) receives the same number of progression hours as the hours accepted upon readmission.

Student Classification. At the beginning of each semester, regular students working toward a bachelor's degree are classified on the basis of earned semester hours:

    Freshman 0-29
    Sophomore 0-59
    Junior 60-89
    Senior 90 or more
