SOCY 4165. Sociology of Women. (3) Prerequisite: SOCY 1101 or WMST 1101 and junior standing
or consent of the instructor. Examines
how the social world of women is influenced by their race, ethnicity, and
class. Attention is given to changing
roles of women in public and private spheres and to the role conflict that
arises as women attempt to meet obligation in families, communities, and the

SOCY 4168. Sociology of Mental Health and Illness. (3) (W) Prerequisite: SOCY 1101 or consent of instructor. Mental
health and illness in its social context; relationship between social structures
and mental health/disorder. How social
factors affect the definition and treatment of mental disorders; the effects of
demographic variables on mental health and illness; the role of social support
and stress; the organization, delivery and evaluation of mental health care

definition of deviance; examination of the social processes producing unusual,
